Learning about context switching

Some mornings I have back to back meetings. This is as problem for a number of reasons:

  • I can end up either busting for a pee or dehydrated. Dehydration equals migraine.
  • After the first meeting, I find it especially difficult to follow the conversation – they might as well be speaking Greek!

I’ve already spotted that I like to take coffee breaks on the hour throughout the day. The only times that doesn’t happen is when I have these bloody back to back meetings, or when I’m in a state of intense concentration and all sense of time disappears.

I was talking to a friend in the office, who is also ASD, when I suddenly spotted another pattern: I like to get a coffee between meetings, the “on the hour” think it’s actually because most meetings are thirty minutes or an hour long. My brain has only gone and found a solution to the brain-scramblies that I get when I go from meeting to meeting.

It seems that I must make sure that I always get a drink between meetings, otherwise I won’t be about to concentrate and follow the conversation!

Now to test this hypothesis!
