The Privilege of Caring

And then it arrives, that heavy email that declares that I am no longer married.

I have to try to do a normal day’s work, but the weight of it bears down on me.

He is now officially my ex.

I need to update my will – because it is now invalid and I would die intestate, which would be a right pain in the arse for whoever has to sort things out.

I also want my ex to have the use of the house until he dies, when it would revert to the family.

This really sucks: I still love him. And I care about him very much.

I believe that having somebody to love and care for and worry about is a privilege.

And it is a privilege that I have lost.
