Little gestures mean a lot

Funiculosus loves cooking – especially for somebody who appreciates it!

Not only does he tie me up, but he loves to feed me – and will make me lunch with the flair of a chef and will give me things to take home with me. Sometimes enough food for a week! Lasagna, momos, dhal, egg curry – he keeps adding to the list of deliciousness that he makes for his “puppy”.

I don’t have his gift for cookery, but I can whip up a half decent cake.

I have made lemon cookies for him and his partner, and coffee, pecan, and maple syrup cake (my favourite), and most recently a bread pudding with brioche rather than normal bread. I always make and give enough for Funiculosus and his partner – and Fun’s dad!

I have spent a bit of time with Funiculosus’ partner – the three of us have had dinner together, walked the dog together, and gone kite flying twice now. The strangeness is slowly lessening … but I remarked to Funiculosus the other day that this feels a little like a thruple!

“I don’t want you to feel awkward,” he said.

I reassured him that it was OK – some awkwardness is OK. And it is getting easier.

I always wonder how his partner feels and what he thinks. In so many ways it is none of my business what he feels and thinks – but here I am come into his life-partner’s life for kink and friendship and what we have is close and intense.

His partner seems to take it in his stride.

Maybe this is something that has happened before and his partner knows that it will pass – but from what Funiculosus has said, I am the first that he’s felt this degree of connection with.

So I was deeply touched when Funiculosus brought some rhubarb yogurt pots that his partner had bought for me after a conversation we’d had last weekend.

That small gesture is possibly the most reassuring thing that he could have done.
