Father’s Day from Tarragona

I’m shortly to leave the beautiful seaside city of Tarragona. I felt much calmer here, whether that is because it is a smaller and quieter town with more green space and less hurry than Barcelona, or because I am settling into my holiday, I don’t know and don’t care.

It’s also Father’s Day in the UK, so I phoned my dad, which he appreciated – although he worried about the cost. I have a roaming deal, so it doesn’t cost much. Besides, everything is VOIP now (voice over internet protocol now).

My brother was there also, so it was nice to have a conversation with the two of them.

I’m not home sick. I don’t miss my dad any more here than at home because most of our relationship, which has grown over time, is over the phone. But it’s important to keep it going – I know that he looks forward to it – and that he starts to worry when he doesn’t hear from me.

And that’s nice to know that he cares after so many years just not knowing.
