Don’t get too excited!
I visited the Archaelolical Museum down at the port of Tarragona.
It is well worth the visit as there are ancient artworks, tools, and other signs of life that are worth seeing.
Such as the mix and match statues. Some Roman statuary was created in such a way that the head and hands could be replaced. Useful when there was a rotating door of emperors in the third century. I don’t think religious statues had the same need to have replaceable parts.
Then there’s the well preserved pieces of architectural finishing that you can’t easily see from the ground. Columns and their capitals. Exquisite.
There’s the usual cracked pots, lanterns, and such like. But the doll with moveable limbs is a surprise.
There’s plenty more for me to see in Tarragona – I’ve seen the big Roman remains in the city, but there are villas around and other remnants. And there’s a while medieval and renaissance city to see.
Earliee, wheni wrote about the amphitheatre, I commented that the Romans were brutal and different from us.
They were like us in other ways though – they had a bit of a thing about pornography! When you’re in Pompeii next, look up when you get to street corners!
In the meantime, I’ll leave you with a toy that could make you weep!
