Muscle Santa

This is the second time I’ve managed to get to the gym this week. That’s a 50% attendance rate so far. Not bad, considering I’m juggling migraines and super disrupted sleep.

After my usual coffee, banana, fed and played with the dog, I cycled the two minutes to the gym.

The guy whom in my head I call “Muscle Santa” arrived.

“Santa” because he has lots of thick, curly white hair and a big white beard. “Muscle” because, despite being somewhere from fifteen to seventy years of age, it looks like he has the body of a fit twenty-something straining to burst through his tight, white T shirt.

Yes, I am a disgusting letch, but I do not stare and I hope that I am never making anybody feel uncomfortable. that would be horrible.

People at the gym don’t often make conversation. There’s only one guy I talk to. I guess most people kind of respect the little privacy bubble that travels around gym bunnies.

“Do you have far to cycle to get here?” Muscle Santa asked.

I told him two minutes.

“Same here,” he said.

Then I told him about the large hill I have to cycle up for work.

It’s funny, but now he’s kind of broken the ice, I feel that I will be able to do that nod-thing that says “We have spoken. I can now acknowledge that you exist.”

You never know, we might even have more conversations.

Perhaps he’ll ask me if I’ve been a good boy and let me have a rummage around his sack!

My routine today was spinning. There are no classes in the morning, and as a result, I am on the cheapest tariff for gym membership: why pay for something you never use?

So, I pop in my gym earbuds and cycle to one of my many playlists I created specifically for spinning – I suppose that is a bit of use of my gym qualification!

If I were to take a spinning class myself, it would be called “Singa-longa-spinning” as all the tracks would be something that you can sing along to: I reckon that if you’re happy when exercising, then you work harder – and if you work harder when exercising you’ll be happier! It’s the perfect feedback loop!
