There’s not a lot to do of lunchtime at the office. In the summer, or at least in the sunshine, there’s a cafe in the park that’s about ten minutes walk from the office.
To get there you travel down a path next to a steam, hearing the birds singing and the brook cackling in its bed.
On the way, I nearly saw what a squeaky wheel bird looks like! I did see both a male and a female blackbird, a robin, and a grey squirrel.
I even discovered that there are two types of squeaky wheel bird! One sounds like a trolly being pushed fast, the other is a little deeper and slower sounding.
The birds do have to shout at times because the motorway bifurcates the path, sadly.
The cafe is nothing special. It hasn’t got a great selection of food. It’s sausage rolls are ok, it’s coffees aren’t nice at all (why do I always buy one then?!), but it’s cakes and flapjacks are good.
I’m close my eyes and feel the sun warming my right cheek, as gently breeze cools my left. I can hear magpies and crows cawing, and the squeaky wheel bird doing is thing.
There are people sharing the courtyard with me. Annoyingly, my brain tries to follow their conversations rather than the sounds of nature that is rather be listening to.
Maybe that’s why I enjoy nature so much – because my brain doesn’t try to process it in any way? I can just be.
I eat the sausage roll, drink the coffee (urgh), and take the flapjack with me – I have to go back to work!
