Petition for UK to recognise non-binary gender

Yesterday, I came across a petition urging the UK government to recognize non-binary as a gender. While I’m not optimistic about immediate change, this effort is important. Many people don’t experience gender as strictly male or female, and recognition would validate their identities.

It’s vital that our politicians understand the diverse experiences of gender. Even signing or sharing this petition can help raise awareness and support for the non-binary community.

In the UK, any petition with over 10,000 signatures will receive a response from the government, and petitions with 100,000 signatures may be considered for a parliamentary debate. Signing helps raise awareness and push these issues forward.

You can sign the petition here: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/700312

I’m not in the UK and I don’t know where Australia stands on this (officially). But I do identify as NB or more accurately as agender as gender is, for the most part, something I never think about. To me it’s just a societal construct and like most autistic people I don’t tend to follow or buy into societal norms.

I feel that’s my experience also – gender roles just don’t make sense
