So tired all the bloody time!
A poor sleep last night as I couldn’t quite get the temperature right, however the intensity of the flushes is much less. I’m not sweating like I used to.
Gym performance wasn’t great either, although it started off ok. I got to the end of my first circuit and felt faint, so I put the weights away and did a little yoga. I’m still feeling a little out of sorts.
Upper body strength has definitely declined; I can barely do one push up, whereas I used to be able to do twenty. I rather suspect that it’s the fatigue that’s stopping me getting to the gym, which in turn is stopping me from exercising. The form of exercise I do is different also, moving more towards cardio than heavy weights. The whole weights routine I do now is more focused on endurance … but I’m only doing it once a week, if that. So perhaps increased weakness is not to be wondered at. Dizzy spells like today need to be watched though.
I am beginning to wonder whether the legendary “eunuch calm” is just another easy of saying “permanently exhausted”.
Captain’s log, with supplements
After waking up feeling tired and my poor performance at the gym, I decided to take the fifteen minute walk to the local health food shop and get the supplements that had been suggested to me!
I’d intended to pick them up when I did the weekly shopping, but I always forget. Can I blame brain fog and the menopause? Not really: I always take a shopping list!
I explained the problem to the guy in the shop, who helped me find some of the items.
These are the supplements I bought:
- Complete vitamin B complex – B vitamins are crucial to the body’s energy production (I remember that grill my PT training)
- Ashwaganda – suggested by a friend to help with energy
- Siberian gingseng – suggested by the shopkeeper as part of a three-for-two deal

B vitamins are water soluble, so any excess will just be peed out (my pee might turn very yellow if I am taking on too many B vitamins), however I think I should be able to see a difference reasonably quickly. The other two I’m less clear about.
The guy in the shop did try to sell me zinc “because it helps with testosterone production”, to which I said “that’s not going to help because I have no testicles”. Such fun.
Migraine this afternoon, so I can’t really tell whether anything had helped so far!
After a sneaky nap and some pills, I’m ok and will go to my piano lesson!
